I never expected to launch a worldwide organization. Never ever thought I'd have to know about braille, or retinas, or genetic mutations. And I had no idea I would be dealt a double dose of darkness.... It was a one-two punch to the gut: both of my boys were diagnosed as blind when they were each 4 months old. I had never even met a blind person, yet I quickly learned how to find the tools blind children need and got them in the hands of my boys, literally. With the right foundation and a multitude of resources, they have become accomplished athletes, high achieving students, talented musicians, and social butterflies. Oh, and international Braille competition finalists too. In May 2011, I connected with other families living with the same rare disease my boys have, and launched a mission to fund a cure. No advanced degree. Never created a website before. Had no idea about grants, or IRB's... the list goes on. I learned how to build a team, nearby and remote, of people that know how to do the things I don't. I spend nearly every minute of every day networking with people that can help either medically, financially, or otherwise. No connection is too small, as I have found some of the greatest resources in the oddest places. In just six years, I've led our Foundation to make progress we thought would take much longer and people are calling on us daily to be a part of a miracle that seemed impossible less than a decade ago. We've raised over one million dollars, made history in the US Congress with the first ever rare eye disease resolution submitted in Braille, and have skyrocketed our little rare disease to the top of mind of many industry leaders - and I am just getting started. If you can help my mission to give options and resources to CRB1 LCA/RP patients, or if you need a dynamic speaker for your event, email me at curingretinalblindness@gmail.com or smedtalk@gmail.com http://kristinsmedley.com https://twitter.com/KristinSmedley https://www.facebook.com/thrivingblind/

Bank Labs is a combination of seasoned executives with deep expertise in community banking, bank technology and alternative finance techniques. We have been founders/leaders in banks ranging from $200 Million in assets to $1.5 Billion in assets in addition to leading multi-billion-dollar technology companies. Our principals are local business leaders, board members, founders and technology and real estate investors. We experienced first-hand how traditional community banking has evolved; clients now access accounts, apply for loans and pay bills via the Internet. True mobility tools to make bankers jobs more productive have not kept pace. Bank Labs mission is to change that. We create cloud-based solutions that target noisy, spreadsheet-based processes. Bank Labs helps community bankers become more efficient so that they can get back to banking, improve productivity, and allow more time to build relationships. This includes providing technology-based marketplaces to help our community bank clients gain access to new markets and defend against internet startups going direct to your clients. We hope to have the opportunity to visit and share what we are doing for the best community banks in the country. https://www.banklabs.com https://twitter.com/TheBankLabs https://www.linkedin.com/company/bank-labs

Increasingly, new employees and junior members of any profession are encouraged—sometimes stridently—to “find a mentor!” Four decades of research reveals that the effects of mentorship can be profound and enduring; strong mentoring relationships have the capacity to transform individuals and entire organizations. Organizations that retain and promote top talent—both female and male—are more likely to thrive. But the mentoring landscape is unequal. Evidence consistently shows that women face more barriers in securing mentorships than men, and when they do find a mentor, they may reap a narrower range of both career and psychological benefits. Athena Rising is a book for men about how to mentor women deliberately and effectively. It is a straightforward, no-nonsense manual for helping men of all institutions, organizations, and businesses to become excellent mentors to women. Co-authors W. Brad Johnson, PhD, and David Smith, PhD, draw from extensive research and years of experience as experts in mentoring relationships and gender workplace issues. When a man mentors a woman, they explain, the relationship is often complicated by conventional gender roles and at times hostile external perceptions. Traditional notions of mentoring are often modeled on male-to-male relationships—the sort that begin on the golf course, involve a nearly exclusive focus on career achievement, and include more than a few slaps on the back over drinks after work. But women often report a desire for mentoring that integrates career and family aspects of life. Women want a mentor who not only “gets” this, but truly honors it. Men need to fully appreciate just how crucial their support of promising junior women can be in helping them to persist, promote, and thrive in their vocations and organizations. As women succeed, lean in, and assume leading roles in any organization or work context, that culture will become more egalitarian, effective, and prone to retaining top talent. http://www.davidgsmithphd.com/thebook https://www.amazon.com/Athena-Rising-Should-Mentor-Women/dp/1629561517

I have been challenging the status quo for as long as I can remember. From being labeled a devil’s advocate in high school to a contrarian in college, I refuse to go with the flow or accept things as they are. Delving into and exploring what others take for granted, I thrive when creating innovative, logical, and elegant solutions. I consider myself a visionary. Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs, it was only a matter of time before I started my own company. As a trained architect with over ten years of experience, I’ve worked internationally on projects in countries including Japan and France, as well as with Hillier, the award-winning firm in Princeton, New Jersey. I have also worked in the health care industry, housing, and urban design. As a teaching assistant at the University of Pennsylvania, I led seminars on planning urban infrastructure systems. While there, I noticed that available methods unnecessarily restricted users’ ability to gain knowledge to make better decisions—too much of the answer is already baked into the question, and there is little room for discovery. I envision a customizable planning solution that’s able to evaluate many infrastructure systems across geographic boundaries. At the same time, it must take spatial relationships into account, ultimately giving users across different disciplines the information and knowledge they need to make better decisions for themselves, their companies, and their clients. That is why I created Spatially, a tech startup that provides location-based services. As founder and CEO of Spatially, I oversee the company and ensure that it furthers my vision to be the leading geospatial analytics and solutions provider. I develop and implement overall growth strategies for the company, conduct research, and establish client relationships. https://www.spatially.com https://www.facebook.com/Spatially https://twitter.com/Think_Spatially

After founding Sub Pop, signing Nirvana, and putting Seattle on the map while orchestrating the worldwide Grunge phenomenon, Bruce Pavitt took a step back. He "retired" from the music industry to raise a family on Orcas, a remote island in the Northwest corner of Washington State. It’s a small community, so it wasn’t long before he met musician, producer and tech entrepreneur, Adam Farish. The two bonded over a shared love of music, and discussed what the future of the industry would look like. They agreed it would be participatory, interactive, and mobile. Fast forward 10 years, and iOS technology finally caught up to their shared vision. Soon Adam began to design a new audio format and platform that would allow any listener to remix music on their phone. Adam then showed his prototype to Bruce. Bruce, given his history in promoting regional culture, immediately saw it as a way to revolutionize the music industry. They officially incorporated as 8Stem in 2015, and set out to launch music 2.0. 8Stem is a revolutionary, interactive audio format that allows any listener to remix music like a professional DJ or sound engineer. Paired with the first multi-channel playback and remixing app, 8Stem signals a new era of music that is participatory, immediate and social. https://8stem.com https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/8stem/id1025280903?ls=1&mt=8 https://twitter.com/8stem

Helped influence the Government to procure national motorways instead of the town by-passes commissioned by the National Roads Authority in 1999. Helped expedite the M50 Motorway and save €400m. This included its realignment: a) near Sandyford Village – so that the village was not enclosed by motorway type roads; b) away from sensitive areas of Finglas, Ballymun and Santry. This enabled this section to open sooner - it was to open 10 years after the Tallaght to Sandyford section but instead was opened 5 years before it; c) at Redcow to remove the last set of lights during its latest upgrade. Played a key role in the Government decision for a Dublin Metro - assembled a Japanese consortium and in 2000 presented to the Cabinet Committee for PPPs a proposal. After the meeting the Cabinet pledged to proceed with a metro. In 2003 presented plans to the Government Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport on how the cost of a metro could be reduced and also instigated the visit of a Spanish delegation to them. The Committee Report noted my 'undoubted knowledge and many skills that are appropriate for the building of a Metro' and that my 'extensive knowledge could be harnessed for the development of the Dublin Metro system'. https://www.linkedin.com/in/cormac-rabbitt-23b61b32/

Brian Smith was born in Australia, where he developed his love of surfing. A chartered accountant, he studied at the UCLA Graduate School of Management, and with $500 of start-up money, he founded UGG Imports to bring sheepskin footwear to America. After seventeen years, as sales reached $15 million, he sold the business to Deckers Outdoor Corporation. The UGG brand has since exceeded $1 billion of international sales times over. A passionate innovator and entrepreneur, Brian is one of the most sought after business leaders in the country today. As a media guest and inspiring speaker, he is committed to teaching his breakthrough business strategies to entrepreneurs and translating personal vision and spirituality into company culture. Brian Smith has recently written a book based upon his journey from conceiving the idea, all the way to selling the business as a national brand. The books theme is that you can't give birth to adults. Every business starts with conception, then birth...the long infancy, then toddling, youth and teenage phases. This understanding is powerful, as hundreds of people in his keynote speaking seminars tell that they were about to give up on their dream, but now they identify themselves in one of the early phases. This gripping story of ecstatic highs and crushing lows of UGG, and Brian show how you can dig deep to overcome every obstacle in your path. I'm in the early stages of starting a tech company that will offer a mobile platform to veterans and transitioning active duty military personnel to assist them in starting a life outside the military. I have more than 8 year’s combined experience as an Infantryman in the United States Marine Corps and international security industry. I've been conducting security operations in Iraq and Afghanistan for most of my adult life. I've held positions as a security manager in Afghanistan managing a guard force of 30-60 local Afghan nationals. Dealing with these local nationals has given me great knowledge on dealing with people in general. Its not easy to communicate complex orders and instructions to security personnel who don't speak your language, but through trial and error, I learned. This skill helps me interact with people that do speak my language so much more and has taught me how to be a better manager and leader. I've been responsible for various threat assessments throughout my career, from vehicles movements (convoys), personal security details, and physical security (buildings). These skills were learned on the job in high threat environments and it has taught me how to be alert and really think outside the box, because in those dangerous environments anything can happen but with a proper threat assessment you can minimize your risk. Specialties: proficient with foreign weapons, surveillance, counter surveillance, profiling, tracking in an urban environment, CQB, MOUT, mobile security procedures, Driving in high threat environments, client formations, movement under fire, breaking contact, living in austere environments, first aid, Security management, Intelligence gathering , and risk mitigation, anti-terrorism. https://victorapp.io https://www.linkedin.com/in/gregoryjumes/

Virtual Rehab leverages the advancements in Virtual Reality technology to reduce the number of repeated offenses and re-incarceration rates worldwide. Every person in life deserves a second chance. Inmates and Substance Abuse Addicts are no exception to this rule. In fact, they are the ones that are in most dire need for help, support, and development to become improved citizens upon their release from prisons and rehab centers. This can only be realized through correctional and rehabilitation programs that will prepare them to lead their future lives in a positive manner in order to avoid the possibility of repeated offenses and substance abuse addiction. At Virtual Rehab, we are developing a powerful tool (provisionally patented) which would rehabilitate rather than just punish. The scope of this tool includes Formal Education, Vocational Job Training, Psychological Rehabilitation, and Correctional Services Rehabilitation. Virtual Rehab’s services will extend to inmates, correctional officers, rehab centers, children-in-need, along with other verticals in the future. Virtual Rehab believes that putting a kid in the corner does not teach them how to be a better person but rather teaches them not to get caught. Therefore, we are in it for the social good and to help address the most vulnerable populations out there. http://www.virtualrehab.co https://twitter.com/ViRehab https://www.facebook.com/ViRehab

I love challenging what's possible and helping people achieve their highest potential. In a world where we are more connected than ever before, many are feeling more disconnected... from themselves, each other and the planet. Actively disengaged employees cost $450 billion to $550 billion in lost productivity per year in the US alone (Gallup, 2013), and depression is now the world's second leading cause of disability (GBD). So I embarked on a bold new project. My last project about bullying & suicide included my song Close To The Edge, which has reached more than 1.6m views on YouTube alone and been used in my speaking engagements along with projects across the globe to raise awareness of these challenges. But I knew there was more to be done. So I sold or donated 99% of the things I used to own in Australia and embarked on a global quest to empower people to achieve their highest potential and show first hand how in a distracted world, technology (when used purposefully), can actually improve our performance, mental health and depth of connection with each other. “This guy is a genius and total professional at what he does and the value he can add. He’s my secret weapon.” - David Pow Tabain, World Kettlebell Champion and Founder of The 30 Day Challenge. I tick things off my own bucket list and speak on stages as I travel the globe, and the latest music I recorded in LA about courage, curiosity, creativity and relationships, are used in my speaking engagements and can be performed live on a grand piano to leave a lasting and memorable impact on the audience. I believe that business should be done and life should be lived in a way that is not only good for you, but also good for others and the planet too. That’s why whenever I’m hired to speak around the world, part of the proceeds go to providing clean water for those in need. I love helping good people thrive, because when good people thrive, they do more good, and that’s what can truly change the world. https://thrivingcollective.com https://www.facebook.com/askcameronbrown https://twitter.com/askcameronbrown

Citizinvestor is a crowdfunding and civic engagement platform for local government projects. We empower citizens to invest in their community and create real change. Any government entity or their official partners can post projects to Citizinvestor.com. These are projects that have support from City Hall and citizens, but simply lack the necessary funds to be completed. Once a project is posted to Citizinvestor.com, citizens can donate tax-deductibly to the projects of their choice. Although citizens are asked to enter their credit card information right away, they will not be charged unless the project reaches 100% of its funding goal before the funding deadline. Once a project reaches 100% of its funding goal, the project is built! Citizinvestors can continue to monitor the project’s progress as it goes from funding to fruition. http://www.citizinvestor.com https://twitter.com/citizinvestor https://www.facebook.com/citizinvestor

With a focus on young male readers, Johnny, Etc looks to not only entertain its readership, but engage it as well through humor, insight, and a clearer message than many other sites we’ve seen. Change Creator™, the premium digital magazine for entrepreneurs who are willing to challenge the status-quo and use business for meaningful change. Young people are changing how they see their careers. Fewer and fewer wish to climb the corporate ladder or take the conventional jobs of those who came before them. More and more want to flex their entrepreneurial muscles, start an enterprise, venture out on their own, and take risks. A recent study by Bentley University found that today, only 13% of survey respondents said that their career goal involves progressing within a corporation to CEO or president. The same study, by contrast, found that almost two-thirds (67%) of respondents said that their goal involves starting their own business. But most of all, today’s young people want to have an impact on their world. A 2014 Nielson study found that 67% of respondents prefer to work for socially responsible companies, 55% will pay extra for products and services from companies committed to positive social and environmental impact, and 52% made at least one purchase in the past six months from one or more socially responsible companies. In other words, our youth care about the world around them and want to be able to do something meaningful for their career. This trend is exciting. There’s no doubt about it. But it’s also an opportunity that can be missed if there isn’t a supportive environment that nurtures our youth and allows them to bring their ideas to life. This is why we founded Change Creator. Social entrepreneurialism draws on traditional business practices and cutting-edge innovation to create solutions to pressing problems affecting society, the environment and economies. As millennials increasingly transcend from school to the workplace, they carry with them a desire to develop wealth, find entrepreneurial ways to solve problems and give back to society. According to the Telefonica Global Millennial Survey over 68% of the millennial surveyed (globally) believe they have the opportunity to become an entrepreneur, while many believe the most pressing problems are the economy, social inequality, access to education, eliminating poverty, creating sustainable energy and providing affordable housing. Today the social entrepreneur is digitally savvy, has learned to work collaboratively in distributed environments and at ease communicating with others on a global basis. Change Creator addresses the need for social entrepreneurs to learn the skills required to be a successful social entrepreneur. “Social entrepreneurship will play an instrumental role in making the world a healthier and more equitable place,” says Adam Force, Publisher ,and Editor of Change Creator. “We need more people who have the courage to push boundaries and challenge the status-quo. An enormous number of people are now trying to figure out how to make the world a better place through the way they live their lives and make a living. We are excited to offer them the tools and insights they need to succeed.” http://changecreatormag.com https://www.facebook.com/changecreator https://twitter.com/Change_Creator

We talk about his Free Online Geek Dating app. Somewhere in Lower Manhattan, a diabolical organization seeks to get geeks dates. It's top secret codename: Dragonfruit. No, not through mad science, secret weapons or brainwashing devices. Our brilliant billionaire scientist-industrialist founder (Okay, he’s not actually Lex Luthor) had this radical idea that there should be a dating app where geekiness of any forms is awesome. Dragonfruit will offer you an experience where you can be upfront about your geekdom, instead of ashamed about it. Geeks know that they’re awesome. They make their passions a part of them and their lives, of course. But often, many geeks feel the need to put on a secret identity to impress their matches. We believe you shouldn’t have to disguise yourself as Clark Kent. Be yourself. Be Superman. We aren’t a team of evil villains trying to brainwash geeks to do our bidding: we’re honestly just geeks hoping to help other geeks. We’re the folks who you lane within Dota 2, talk while in the line to Hall H, attend cosplay meet-ups, and more. We understand geeks well, and most importantly- we know geeks love to be together with geeks. http://www.dragonfruitapp.com https://twitter.com/projdragonfruit

We talk about his framing startup, how they bring technology to the farming industry & let farmers sell their crops all over the world. Last year the United Nations reported the current world population of 7.2 billion is projected to increase by 1 billion by 2025 and reach 9.6 billion by 2050. Hunger is already a global crisis, so how will we feed billions more people in the years to come? The technological advancements in most areas of agriculture over the past decade are astounding with the exception of how farmers market their crops. For many operations the process hasn’t changed in the last 50 years. In order to maximize efficiency when buying and selling grain, we must continue to move forward with technology. Grainster.com is the first trading platform of it’s kind in the industry. To put it simply, Grainster is an online marketplace to connect buyers and sellers of grain. By allowing buyers and sellers to contract directly they are essentially cutting out the middleman and subsequently providing both parties flexibility and cost savings. Grain producing countries around the globe will have access to international listings, which equates to lower marketing costs and easy expansion into new markets. This is especially beneficial for developing countries that may lack infrastructure for importing and exporting. http://grainster.market

We talk what is the Fairshare Model, a performance-based capital structure for companies that seek venture capital via a public offering. From 1996 to early 2001, I was CEO and co-founder of a company, Fairshare, that was a front-runner for the modern concept of crowdfunding. That experience, together with what I’ve learned as a consultant, provides the foundation for the book I’m working on, The Fairshare Model. Prior to moving to the San Francisco Bay area in 1983, I lived and worked in for established manufacturing companies in St. Louis, Chicago and the Detroit area, where I grew up. You can call me a hacker, I don’t mind. It’s right there on my business card: Certified Ethical Hacker. Because that’s what I do. When asked, I’ll (Legally) break into your home desktop, your company’s computer system, or your corporation’s IT system. Why would you want me to do that? Well, wouldn't you rather that I do it before the unethical, evil hacker does it first? If the bad guy beats me to it, he’ll turn your life upside down in costly and cruel ways that you can’t even imagine. It happens every minute of every day in today’s digital world. I’ll show you how to combat this potential nightmare and protect your yourself, your family and your business. For corporations, we start with a current assessment of your threats, vulnerabilities & risks. Then we can establish where you need to be with protection and accountability solutions. What I do: • Test customer networks for security holes and help plug them • Online and in-person Internet safety lessons to conventions, organizations, businesses, community associations, and ordinary folks everywhere. • Media interviews on national television, radio, in print, and online publications. Each time I make a presentation, it gives me hope that people are waking up to the reality that the Internet, along with all the wonderful benefits that it brings has danger lurking at your doorstep. So get protected now ... Please visit: http://www.InternetSafetyUniversity.com to learn how you can protect yourself, your family and your business with this FREE Internet Safety Video Series. Cybersecurity, ethical hacking, internet self-defense, and education: this is what I do and I can do it for you. http://terrycutler.com https://www.facebook.com/terrycutler911 https://twitter.com/Terrypcutler
