Dr. Hughes is a board certified ophthalmologist in private practice and a Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Other memberships include The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Texas Ophthalmologic Association, and past president of the San Antonio Society of Ophthalmology.
Jane has been named in Best Ophthalmologists in America by consumers report, Best Doctors in America, Texas Top Doctors, and San Antonio’s Top Doctors.
She has been a passionate advocate for doctor-patient centered healthcare reform and as such founded the organization “United with Solutions for American Healthcare” (USAH).
Jane is the President of the Texas Chapter Docs4PatientCare, and Co-Founder Ads4Truth.org, and has traveled back and forth to Washington, D.C. as a consultant for the Physicians Council for Responsible Reform.
Dr. Hughes is married to Dr. Philip Hughes, a dermatologist. Their oldest daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Hughes Tichy is also a dermatologist and is in practice with her father. Their son, Dr. Alexander Hughes, is a spine surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Their youngest daughter, Audrey, attends Furman University.
